Engineer’s Week

6th Mar 2026

This week we celebrated Engineer’s Week in our classroom. The children took part in a range of exciting STEM activities designed to encourage creativity, teamwork and problem solving.

Various stations were set up around the room and each group of children spent time exploring and working at each station. The activities included:

• The Cup Stacking Challenge – children worked together to stack cups as high as possible.

• Tinfoil Boats – pupils designed and built boats from tinfoil and tested how many marbles their floating boats could hold before sinking.

• House of Cards – children experimented with balance and structure to build a stable house of cards.

• Marshmallow Construction Challenge – using marshmallows and sticks, groups designed and built their own structures.

• Stop Motion – pupils created short stop-motion animations.

• Scratch Junior – children explored coding by creating simple programs and animations.

• Stacking Straws Challenge – groups built tall structures using only straws.

• Paper Cup Phone Challenge – pupils investigated sound by making phones using cups and string.

The children showed fantastic teamwork, creativity and perseverance throughout the week. It was wonderful to see them thinking like engineers — designing, testing, improving and trying again!
